A dear old friend of mine introduced me at a production meeting as "That Famous Polish Lighting Designer" and we all chuckled. During the production the crew gave me a pen/desk set with the engraving TFPLD. As the internet came into popular culture i needed an email addy. I tried 4 different names and on my last chance i looked at my pen/desk set and said of course "TFPLD"

"Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir" for City Theatre 2011

Some times one works on a project that just speaks so deeply one knows exactly how the design will materialize.  That was the case with this particular play. I had a pretty busy fall and this was part of it.  This was a world  premiere of a Keith Bunin play. The character of Sam was played by Luke Macfarlane.    I had so many other ideas but budget/inventory constraints did not allow for some ideas to happen.  I was very happy with my work though.  The production was produced in the Lester Hamburg studio for City.  It is a great little piece and i hope it has a life.  The production was a huge success.

"Illyria" for Playhouse Conservatory 2011

This is the musical adaptation of "12th Night".  Right after this musical would close would be a production of the play "12th Night".  New director and cast.  New Costume Designer and Lighting Designer who was a student I was mentoring.   Scott Wise, the director, gave the design team a tremendous amount of freedom on this show.  There were a few minor challenges.  The set would have minor changes but immediately be a "12th Night" production.  While the box set for his production was straight forward the director for "Illyria" wanted an element of danger/mystery to the design.  That danger came in way of the box set "tilting" in on itself.  Can you say "hello sidelight"?  In the end with the challenges it was a sweet little production.  We used Vari-Lights as the follow spots.  It was a very intensive situation in terms of cuing and keeping this young cast to be consistent. The orchestra was up center in the opening.  Some of these pictures are not from final dress.  The orchestra was in costume.

"A Chorus Line" for Playhouse Conservatory 2011

I did a production of "A Chorus Line" this past fall and got to work with an old friend Danny Herman.  Danny was part of the original production and has directed it many times over.  He told me that this production would be just like it was in 1975.  About a decade ago a friend of mine had some great paperwork of the choreography of the show and gave me a copy.  This was the 3rd time i have designed the show.

"Lost Boy found in Whole Foods" for THE REP 2011

Here are a few pictures from Tammy Ryan's play "Lost Boy found in Whole Foods".   The play has several settings but primarily happens at the Matriarch's home.  I have been fortunate to design many of Tammy's play and it is always a pleasure.  We have premiered some of those play but this was not the case with this one.  The "walls" of the house were translucent "cloroplast" walls which i was able to take advantage of.
